Mathieu always
dreamed of building musical instruments. At 14, he builds his
first guitar, getting parts from various objects. At 16, he goes
to Switzerland to work with a violin maker “Kaspar Mûrer”,
the latter confirms his vocation.
To get closer to the woodwork techniques, he then takes antique
furniture restorations courses. It has now been 11 years since
Mathieu began his training as a guitar builder. In 1996, he enters
the CMB (centrum voor musiekinstrumentenbouw) in Puurs, where,
during 7 years, he improves his techniques and successfully receives
his Tokkelinstrumentenbouw, akoestische steelstring gitaarbouw
certificate. In the mean time, he sets up his first workshop.
He gains knowledge from Michel Droeshaut, a guitar-maker from
Brussels, and completes his training by obtaining the Music Instrument
Maker Certificate.
